Straight out of High School in 1977, Joe went to work at Fruehauf Trailer Company where he was later promoted to Production Supervisor. After leaving Fruehauf in 1989, Joe transferred to River City Hydraulics where they manufactured hydraulic hoses and repaired pumps, valves, and cylinders for hydraulic equipment. In 1992, Joe received a call from Raymond Godman after a friend of his told Raymond he might be interested in going to work for him. Not realizing at first, Joe said, “You’re the man with the Tennessee Bo-Weevil Funny car!” and Raymond laughed it off like it was nothing. Joe went to work for Godman’s and stayed with him for 26 years, until he passed away on Jan 1, 2018. Joe considered retirement, but so many people wanted the store to stay open, so Joe got the idea to keep running the business. Joe approached Raymond’s wife, Mrs. Jane Godman about keeping the business going and together they made it happen. According to Joe, “I owe her a debt of gratitude I could never repay. Behind every great man, there is always an even greater woman, remember that.”
